White Carbon Black: A High-Tech Inorganic Fine Chemical Product

White carbon black, also known as silica dioxide, scientifically named precipitated hydrated silica, is a high-tech inorganic fine chemical product with SiO2 as its main component. It exhibits properties similar to carbon black, presenting itself as a white, highly dispersed amorphous powder or flocculent powder. It can also be processed into granules for commercial use.

With a light weight, the original relative density of particles below 0.3μm is 2.319-2.653. It has a melting point of 1750℃ and is insoluble in water and most acids. When exposed to air, it absorbs water, transforming into fine water-absorbing particles. It is soluble in caustic soda and hydrofluoric acid. It does not react with other chemicals, remains stable at high temperatures, and is non-combustible.

White carbon black is chemically inert towards substrates, active components, and additives. It exhibits good compatibility with many active ingredients commonly used in vitamins, hormones, fluorides, antibiotics, enzyme preparations, and cosmetics. It possesses high electrical insulation properties.

Due to its high porosity and large specific surface area, white carbon black demonstrates significant dispersing capability in natural rubber. In rubber, it exhibits high reinforcement performance. The surface modification of hydrophobic silica makes it easily soluble in oil. When used as a reinforcing filler in rubber and plastic, it significantly improves mechanical strength and tear resistance.

Different manufacturing methods result in variations in the physical and chemical properties, as well as microstructures of silica dioxide. Consequently, the application areas and effectiveness may vary.
